How Do I Choose The Right Shed?

In the market for a brand new garden shed, but have no clue where to begin? You're in the right place! With this helpful guide, your garden will soon have a new addition - and you'll finally have somewhere to store those gardening tools that have been lying around!

What Type Of Shed Would Be Best For Me?

What will you store in your garden shed? Where will you put it? What style would most match your garden? These are the questions you need to be asking yourself when investing in a new garden shed. Wood is a classic and traditional material for sheds so it's the most common choice; it's durable, and can be easily painted to suit your aesthetic. Metal sheds are a good option if you're looking for more security or something that can truly stand any weather, but many plastic sheds can also offer protection from the elements, so don't rule them out too quickly!

Choosing The Right Size

Always make sure to measure properly before rushing to buy your garden shed. This piece will be a hefty one to replace if you measure incorrectly, so double check everything first! If you require shelves or separate units inside your garden shed, make sure you've measured them too, to make sure there's enough interior space to fit everything you need. If you have ample room, we always recommend getting a slightly bigger garden shed than you may have first anticipated to get. We tend to underestimate just how much we need to store away, and it's always better to be safe than sorry!

Wooden Sheds

The classic choice is one that never goes out of style, and when it comes to garden sheds, the classic is a traditional wooden variation! With many different sizes, shapes, and styles available, and with the freedom to paint and customise the wooden exterior however you like, it's understandable why this type of shed is the most common. Even if you don't want to customise your wooden garden shed, leaving it unpainted offers a clean, natural look that will seamlessly blend into any garden. They are also known for their durability during any weather - a great all-rounder!

Metal Sheds

The more unique choice for your garden would be a metal shed. With just as many - if not more - variations as wooden sheds, the metal shed can also offer different colours, sizes, shapes, as well as a higher level of security! A smaller metal shed, perfect for garden tools, can also be moved much easier than wooden sheds, giving you the freedom to switch things around every so often if you don't feel like committing to just one spot in your garden.

Plastic Sheds

The last option for your new garden shed is plastic. Again, this option comes with durability, better portability compared to heavy wooden sheds, and a certain level of customisation. Your plastic shed would also be immune to rust, mould and corrosion - not to mention they are often treated to stop them fading in sunlight!

Shed Lighting

Whilst complete and utter privacy with no windows whatsoever can seem tempting, you may eventually need some sort of light source in your new garden shed. Invest in handy lanterns and lamps powered by solar energy (though don't forget to let them charge outside in the sun!) or find a shed with windows to help you see what you're doing during the daytime.
